The intriguing Lao-Tai textiles in this exhibition were collected by Professor Ellison Banks Findly in northeastern Laos. These textiles, produced by Tai weavers, reflect religious and spiritual beliefs, incorporating Buddhist and Hindu mythology and shamanistic practices.
Texas Folk Art features the spirited work of some of the state’s most original painters and sculptors, including H. O. Kelly, Reverend Johnnie Swearingen, Velox Ward, and Clara McDonald Williamson, among others.
