Outsider art, also known as visionary, intuitive or folk art is typically created by self taught crafts persons’ and artists, and is one of the more enigmatic categories of visual art. Lifelong collectors of outsider art can be compelled by a particular region or the specific handling of a medium, while the uninitiated may only find intuitive work amusing at best.
“Bringing the Outsiders In” will bring together notable experts and artists from the field of outsider art and will discuss a variety of topics that include the history and historical significance of outsider art.

Moderating the discussion will be Chicago based artist / activist, Candace Hunter. Joining the discussion will be; Carl Hammer of Carl Hammer Galleries, Professor Lisa Stone from the Roger Brown Study Collection, renowned art collector, Patric McCoy and outstanding outsider artist, Dr. Charles Smith whose exhibition Charles Smith: Homecoming is on view at The DuSable Museum until December 31, 2011.
