Georgia and Beyond: Southern Self-Taught Art, Past and Present

Folk art exhibition curated by Susan Crawley, highlighting the accomplishments of vernacular artists from Georgia and across the South, post and present. This exhibit, featuring works by Thornton Dial, Howard Finster, Clementine Hunter, Nellie Mae Rowe, and Bill Traylor, explores the wide variety of materials these artists have used to fashion potent testimonies about their lives, their beliefs, and the world around them.

The public is invited to attend the FREE Opening Reception, 6 – 8 PM on January 17th at the Madison-Morgan Cultural Center. Curator Susan Crawley will present a brief lecture at 7 PM. The Georgia and Beyond exhibit is scheduled to be on display through April 13, 2014, and is sponsored by the Willie and Ruth Still Cox, Marilyn Cox Elliott & Suzanne Cox Hartness Fund.
