Wit in Wood: The Art of Moses Robinson
From February 16, 2013 to September 4, 2013
Wit in Wood: The Art of Moses Robinson is a collection of carvings, some less than 1/4 inch, that were made by Moses Robinson over the course of his lifetime. Born in South Carolina in 1845, Robinson moved to Sandy Springs, GA, where he lived for most of his 97 years. When illness struck Robinson and he was no longer able to farm his land, he began carving figures representing what he saw around him. He often used found objects in his craft, such as peach pits and walnut shells. The result is a collection of incredibly detailed and often whimsical figures that had been dispersed among various descendants of Robinson for more than 70 years. The collection has just been brought together and a portion of it will be on display. The Heritage Sandy Springs Museum is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
